How Clear Aligners Actually Affect Your Daily Life

Posted on

If you want straighter teeth, then getting clear aligners is a great option. Clear aligners are far less obvious than traditional braces. They don't rub on your cheeks and gums nearly as much, and food does not get caught on them. But how does wearing clear aligners actually impact your daily life? Take a look.

Brushing Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth with braces is harder than brushing your teeth without any appliances on them. The toothbrush may get caught on the braces, and you may have a hard time cleaning around the brackets themselves. So, how does this compare to brushing with clear aligners? Well, brushing with clear aligners is actually no different from brushing your ordinary teeth. That's because you remove the aligners before you brush. As such, you can do a good, thorough job of cleaning your teeth in spite of having aligners. This keeps your risk of bad breath, cavities, and stains low.

Eating

When you have clear aligners, you remove them to eat. So, having clear aligners does not really affect how you eat, overall. You can enjoy crunchy foods, chewy foods, and other foods that you would not be able to eat with braces on. You will want to rinse your mouth or perhaps brush your teeth after eating and before putting the aligners back in, but this is a minor inconvenience.

You can drink water with your clear aligners in place, but you can't drink other liquids. So, this may mean you find yourself drinking less coffee or soft drinks, but more water, throughout the day. While you might find this a little annoying, it does tend to be better for your health overall.

Talking

When you first get your aligners, talking may feel a bit strange. You may feel the aligners when you move your tongue to make certain sounds, such as the "s" sound. However, most people soon adapt to this. If you spend a couple of days talking in the privacy of your own home, you'll figure it out and sound like yourself again. And if you're really worried about speaking clearly during a speech or an interview, you can always take the aligners out for a few minutes.

As you can see, wearing clear aligners doesn't impact your daily life much at all. If you want straighter teeth, this is a great option to consider and discuss with your dentist.
